A carol service at All Souls Langham and raining on a flower market

Sunday 17 December

Because H was playing at the 11.30am, we attended the second service so that we could lunch together after the service. From Colindale, it took us 45 minutes to get to All Souls Langham.

The service had carols that built the background of Christmas and the message was based on Jn 3:16 ( The gift: given out of love, given because we needed it and given to last for eternity). It was simple yet powerful and my little attention span coud even remember a day after the sevice.

Flower Market at Columbia Rd on a cold and soggy Sunday

After H was done with her duty, we went off together to Columbia Flower Market. It was a longish walk from Bethnal Green station. The frigid rain and freezing weather made the walk very unenjoyable, esp when H was carrying her own viola.

The market was pretty and it being the last weekend before Christmas,  flowers were selling off cheaply by desperate shopkeepers. 2- roses for 5 GBP was impossible in London itself.

Never judge a shop by its front. Delicious food inside!

We could not find any place suitable for lunch and walked to Bricklane where we had a very late lunch in a Damascu Bite kebab shop. the wraps were amazing and I knew we were spoiling our dinner again.

Indulgence on a cold day

After  lunch, upon my suggestion, we walked in the bitter cold to Box park where we enjoyed charcoal coconut and gemaicha soft serve at Soft Serve society. I was on a sugar free diet but gave some allowance for this luxurious dessert. I would make a trip there agani if I every go to London.

It was 4pm, lunch was just over. It was too early for dinner and too late and a hassle to go back home and for H to relieve her of her viola. We spent a miserable hour at Liverpool station to get away from the persistant rain. Thankfully there was free wifi and we even served the net while taking a rest.

The cold was too much for me and I bought a pair of gloves at a store before we took a train to Tottenham Court Station. We had to while away the time before Christmas and Tottenham Court was the perfect place. At Blacks, Pat and H bought a pair of gloves each or risk losing their fingers. It was a good timing because Blacks was closing for the day.

Surly service but we had our own fun

Making music from a serving table

We made our way to Ciao Bella Italian at Lamb's Conduit St. H's fingers were now toasty and the walk felt more bearable. We did not make a reservation and since lunch was just 3.5 hours ago, we took it easy when we had to wait for a table,

it was a rather long wait for service, from order to food, which was just as well for us. The bowl of cheese and olives were consumed despite the fact that we were not hungry. The veal and meat ravioli were decent though not great. The star was on the pistachio ice cream which made we long for more.

After dinner, we hopped on the train at Russel Sq. H and us parted ways at Kings Cross. There was laundry and packing to do.

Aimless loitering in wet, freezing weather was no fun, what more hoisting a viola around town. Perhaps we have made 5km, a walk I would rather not have.
