Fri 15 December
Oour lunch appointment with LaiLeng was postponed which left us with a time slot available for something light and short before the evening concert. RAF museum was round the corner and needed no commute. Plus there is free admission so what was not to love/
We were there almost immediately when the museum was opened for the day. It was loated in a upper middle class area in Colindale where condos and more condos are built.
The hanger contains many planes used by the English during the world war. Of note was the Spitfire and utilities used during the war. Pat loves anything that flies; planes, space shuttle so he would have enjoyed it more than me. In any case, I felt the planes were not displayed to tell us the development of the technology nor was it made to allow us to follow the progress of the war systematically so I felt the benefit of the visit was little,
Weather was frigid and we hurried to Beaufort dining for an impressive but slow lunch. Pork cutlet and pie was notably good. The crumble was a favorite and H had to fight over the dessert with us,
Back at the apartment, we changed into something more fancy for the evening's concert. It was then an easy ride to Embankment, where we crossed the river to take in the vibe of the Southbank christmas market. A leisurely dinner at EAT! ensued and a visit to Foyles where we lusted over books we loved.
Handel's Messiah was a long production and I regretted not getting a copy of the program. It has 53 movements and of course the highlight was the Halleluiah chorus where the audience were encouraged to stand and join in the singing. All in all, a lovely concert but given the long duration of the show, I will not be attending it anytime soon.
It was not a bad change from the non stop walking of the previous days. But I think I will miss the English country side when I get back home.
