Hampton, Bushy Park and Kingston Upon Thames Market

Wed 20 December

It was the day of long commute and perhaps not the best idea on a short winter day.Bus H98 from Hayes and Harlington and a change at Harlington Corner to Bus 111 ( one hour!) to Hampton Court Gardens took a grand total of  1.5 hours. By then it was 10.30am.

I found out that the gardens are not at all free, only a teeny bit before the entrance. The fees to the palace and gardens was a whooping 20 GBP, my oversight. We took a Thames river walk and backtracked to Bushy park where the Diana fountain was. Around Heron ponds and Leg of Mutton ponds, we chanced upon a big stag wacking the low branches with its huge antlers.

Out of the park, we proceeded along Sandy Lane, crossed Hrose Fair and found ourselves in bustling town of Kingston. The river front was alive with visitors despite the grey skies and a Christmas market was operating in full steam.

After a very unremarkable lunch at Gazebo at the riverfront, we checked out what the vibrant market has to offer. At Kingston bus station , we took the unfortunate decision to ride bus 285 heading to Harlington corner. After a frustratingly slow 60 odd minutes ride, we were all deposited one stop shy of our destination. To much annoyance to all, we had to find the respective bus stops and continue on our journey. The connecting trip ,all 3km of it, cost us another 1.50 to our dismay.

We alighted from H98 at Millington Rd and did our marketing at Asda. It was grocery mecca and we had to control ourselves and only buy just enough.

We had an early dinner and enjoyed Judy Dench telling us about the social live of her trees in Surrey. It was enjoyable as much as it was educational.
