Moving to Hayes and a luxurious stay

Monday 18 December

We checked out of Colindale at 9.30 am and took the train at Paddington Station to hayes and Harlington Station for 6,20 GBP each. We got up the train just a minute before the Heathrow Connect took off. Phew.

Staycity was a stone's throw away from the station and we even had a room ready upon arrival at 11.30 pm. The one bedroom apartment was wonderful, spacious and facing the canal. We couldn't have asked for more.

We recce the area taking in the vibe on that clear cold day. We walked all the way to Uxbridge Rd and decided to try Grapes Tandoori. We were theonly customers for the way and ate until it was time for their afternoon break. The service was very terribly slow but curies were very good. The vondoloo lamb was too spicy, creamy vegetable korma textured with coconut and paneer thick with cream and cheese pieces. I would give it a 4 star for the food, a star less for using Thai chilli sauce which was a disgrace.

We retraced our steps and checked out the mall park. Pat had the entire changing room to himself at Topshop but after 4 pairs of jeans, he didn't like any and left empty handed. There was none of the Christmas rush which was nice.

Sun set early at 4pm and we caught the evening light, a kaleidoscope of colors in the skies, with the silhouette of the roof tops of chimnes in the bottom of the picture. Scenic couldn't properly describe it enough.

We gave in to our food shopping frenzy and flitted from Iceland, where we landed with a bag of cheesy vegetables, to a Mamak store where we bought quince and mangoes , to Tesco express where we gave in to a pet bottle of cloudy lemon. This place is food mecca and good for foodies with a low budget.

The kitchen at Staycity lacked many basic appliances but we made do and had a sumptous dinner out of the cooking pots. Not glam, but still good.

We had a good rest enjoying the TV program and fast wifi. May tomorrow be another day with clear weather like today's so that all of us can enjoy Richmond  park together.
